Wichita verifies email about water payments is legit

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita water customers are getting an email that may appear suspicious. After all, the City of Wichita has been dealing with a cyberattack.

The email claims to be from “InvoiceCloud on Behalf of City of Wichita” and discusses how to pay your water bill. KSN News contacted the City to see if residents could trust the email. The City says you can.

“This is a legitimate message,” Megan Lovely, City of Wichita communications manager, said. “Auto-payments and scheduled payments are now also working.”

Wichita cyberattack update: What residents need to know

The email repeats what the City has been saying: “All water systems are secure and functioning as normal.”

It assures customers that water will not be shut off during the cyber security incident.

“Anyone having difficulty paying their bill will not receive penalties or late fees until the cyber incident is resolved,” the email reads.

The email says you can pay your water and sewer bill with cash, check or money order at City Hall, Dillons or Walmart. You can also mail your payment.

The workers at City Hall do not currently have a way to look up account information. If you go to City Hall, have the name on the water account and the service address. If possible, bring your bill with you.

“What customers cannot do is set up auto-payments at this time or pay via credit card if they do not have autopayments set up,” Lovely said.

If your water was shut off before the cyberattack, and you want to get it reconnected, take a $150 payment or proof of a $150 payment to City Hall, and your water will be reconnected.

If you want to set up a new water account or if you have any other water account questions, call 316-265-1300 or go to City Hall.

If you have a water emergency, call 316-262-6000.
