TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is ordering flags to fly at half-staff next week in honor of our nation’s military personnel.

Kelly announced in a press release on Friday, May 24 that flags are to fly at half-staff from sunup until noon on Monday, May 27 this year for Memorial Day. This is to honor those who have given their lives in service of the U.S. over the years.

“The brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms represent the best of Kansas and our nation,” Kelly said. “On Memorial Day and every day, we owe them our deepest gratitude for their service.”

President Joe Biden also issued an order on May 24 ahead of Memorial Day for flags to be lowered. In it, he requests all state governors to issue half-staff orders nationwide. The full proclamation can be found here.

“This Memorial Day, we honor the brave women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation’s freedom,” Biden said. “We recommit to keeping our sacred obligation to their survivors, families, and caregivers. Together, we vow to honor their memories by carrying on their work to forge a more perfect Union.”
