Who's eligible for the next round of student loan forgiveness?

Do you still owe on your student loan? Help is on its way for about 458,000 people.

The Biden Administration approved $5.8 billion in student debt relief for 78,000 public service workers, the US Department of Education announced.

An additional 380,000 public service workers will be emailed, notifying them they are on track to have their student loan debt canceled through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program within two years, or 24 qualifying payments.

“For too long, our nation’s teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters, and other public servants faced logistical troubles and trap doors when they tried to access the debt relief they were entitled to under the law," U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said in a prepared statement.

Including this most recent announcement, 67,100 borrowers in New York State had a total of almost $4.7 million of student loan debt forgiven, according to the federal Education department.
