Whitewater Center creates 70-acre dog park

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Dogs will be able to play off-leash at the Whitewater Center following the opening of a new canine-focused area this weekend.

The 70-acre designated dog park, known as Off Leash, will open Saturday, March 30. It’s comprised of a 1.5-miles trail loop, lake with pebble beach, dock, drinking trough and dog wash station.

The outdoor recreation facility says there is also plenty of open space and wooded areas for guests and their dogs to spread out from others.

Also part of Off Leash is the Barley House, which has offerings for people and dogs. Taking its name from the Old English word for “barn,” the building is home to a new retail, food and beverage offerings, where guests can purchase food, treats, and beer.

The pavilion at Off Leash is available for private events.

With the opening of the new area, all dogs must remain on leash until inside Off Leash. Other rules include owners being required to keep their dog under voice control while off-leash, and dogs that are aggressive or sick are not allowed inside the facility. There is a limit of three dogs per person.

Guests can access Whitewater Off Leash by purchasing a $10 single activity pass, a $20 monthly Off Leash pass, or a $149 annual pass. Guests must purchase one pass per dog. Annual passholders can add an additional dog to their pass for $50 per dog.

Off Leash is detached from the main recreation area, and can be accessed from the end of the South parking lot.
