Where can I see the 2024 total solar eclipse in Wisconsin and across the country?

A total solar eclipse will be visible in portions of the United States in April as the moon blocks the sun's light along a 115-mile-wide, southwest-to-northeast path across the continent.

Wisconsin isn't in the path of totality and instead will see a partial eclipse. But that doesn't mean that Wisconsinites can't still see the total eclipse.

Here are some options to consider if you're interested in traveling to see the eclipse:

What are some U.S. destinations to view the solar eclipse?

This solar eclipse runs from Mexico, through the United States and into Canada. NASA reported a table of U.S. cities that will experience the total solar eclipse, and will also see a partial eclipse before and after totality. For that list, you can visit NASA's website. These are just a few destinations:

Dallas, Texas

The total eclipse starts at 1:40 p.m. CDT and ends at 1:44 p.m. CDT.

Get there: Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport offers nonstop flights to Dallas/Forth Worth, Texas via American Airlines and Dallas Love, Texas via Southwest.

Little Rock, Arkansas

The total eclipse starts at 1:51 p.m. CDT and ends 1:54 p.m. CDT.

Get there: Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport does not offer nonstop flights to Little Rock. You can visit your airline's website to find a connection to your destination.

Cleveland, Ohio

What is the closet city from Milwaukee to drive to see the full solar eclipse?

Of the hundreds of cities and towns on the path of totality, it's hard to say with absolute certainty which is the closest to Milwaukee. However, one of the closest is Sheridan, Ind. The small Indiana town of about 3,000 people is a four-hour drive from Milwaukee, around 265 miles away.

Indianapolis is the closest major city Milwaukeeans can drive to on the path of totality. Indiana's capital city is about a four-hour and 15-minute drive from Milwaukee, or around 280 miles.

When is the solar eclipse in Milwaukee?

Like much of the country, Milwaukee is not under the path of totality but will experience a partial solar eclipse on April 8. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 2:08:10 p.m. in Milwaukee, according to USA Today.

The eclipse will begin at 12:53:00 p.m., and it will reach 50% of the maximum coverage at 1:33:50 p.m. After peaking at 2:08:10 p.m., 50% of the maximum coverage will again be visible at 2:42:20 p.m. The eclipse will end in Milwaukee at 3:21:50 p.m.
