The Detroit Free Press has been on guard telling Michigan’s most important stories since 1831.

Where Secrets Go to Die: The Disappearance of Derrick Henagan” is the news organization’s first narrative, serial podcast.

Told in eight episodes, it chronicles the story of a man who vanished from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in 2008. It examines not only suspects in the case, but also the police who are supposed to solve it.

Host John Wisely has been a reporter in Michigan for more than 30 years. Reporting for this story took him to the Upper Peninsula, West Michigan and Kentucky. It included more than three dozen Freedom of Information Act requests and the review of more than 1,000 pages of documents related to the case and the people in it.

The team:

John Wisely investigated, wrote and hosted the podcast.

Anjanette Delgado served as executive director, and Darcie Moran served as executive producer.

Kathy Kieliszewski was story editor and Jim Schaefer was the managing editor. Nicole Avery Nichols is editor of the Detroit Free Press.

Robin Chan served as an associate audio producer, Tad Davis served as a development producer and contributing producer, and Adrienne Roberts also was a contributing audio producer.
