What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2021 In Herndon
HERNDON, VA — With Christmas approaching and concerns about the growing number of new COVID-19 cases growing, families are tasked with modifying holiday plans to limit the chances of spreading the illness. One thing that remains the same is the closure or modification of many services in Herndon for the holiday.
Below are the openings and closings to know for Christmas around Herndon:
Town of Herndon government offices will be close at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. Offices will also be closed Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 31.
Town of Herndon Police Department: The police department's business offices will be closing at 12 noon on Thursday, Dec. 23 and will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24. Dispatchers and officers will be on duty 24/7 throughout the holidays. For non-emergency matters, call 703-435-6846. For emergencies, call 911.
Fairfax County government offices: County government offices will close at noon on Dec. 23 and be closed on Dec. 24.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Students have winter break from Dec. 20 to 31.
Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 23 and 24.
Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment only. Animal-related emergencies should be directed to Animal Protection Police at 703-691-2131.
Community Center: Herndon Community Center will be open from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 and closed Friday, Dec. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 25. The center will be open Monday-Thursday, Dec. 27-30, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. The center will be closed on Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Bready Tennis Center: Herndon Tennis Center will be closed Friday, Dec. 24-Sunday, Dec. 26. The center will be open Monday, Dec. 27-Thursday, Dec. 30, from 2-9 p.m. The center will be closed Friday, Dec. 31-Sunday, Jan. 2.
Golf Course: Herndon Centennial Golf Course will be open, weather permitting, Friday, Dec. 24, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The course will be open Friday, Dec. 31, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with the New Year's Even Golf Tournament taking place at 10 a.m. The course will also be open Saturday, Jan. 1, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 24 and are closed on Nov. 25 and 26.
Department of Motor Vehicles: On Nov. 25 to 27, all DMV customer service centers will be closed.
Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 24 and 25, Fairfax Connector will run Saturday service. Routes on a Saturday schedule will include 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 424, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 703, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Library locations will be open 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 23 and closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Park authority: Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Post offices: Some locations may have limited or extended hours on Dec. 24. Check with your local post office. All post offices are closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation centers: Rec centers will be open 5 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
Trash and recycling: Trash normally collected in Herndon on Thursday will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 24 and 31.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Dec. 23 to 25.
Christmas Tree Collection in Herndon: Monday- Friday, Jan. 3-7, and Monday, Jan. 10-Jan. 14. Trees will only be collected on your trash day.
