Whac-A-Mole founder selling NC equestrian estate

A sweeping equestrian estate in the foothills of the western North Carolina mountains is one of the state’s most expensive real estate listings of its kind currently up for sale.

Grandstands and gallop tracks: Versailles Palace gardens get ready for Olympic equestrian events

Called Double C Acres and priced at $5.9 million, the 211-acre estate in Morganton came on the market in mid-March as that rural city’s priciest residential real estate listing on record, according to listing brokerage Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

The property on Pax Hill Road is owned by Bob and Joyce Cassata. Bob Cassata is the founder of Bob’s Space Racers, a Florida-based company that makes arcade and amusement-park games and might be best known for bringing to market Whac-A-Mole decades ago.

Close to a decade ago, brothers Aviv and Matteo Shapira co-founded Replay, a company that created a video format for 360-degree replays -- the sorts of replays that have become part and parcel of major sports broadcasts. Replay caught the attention of Intel, which acquired the company in 2016 for a reported $175 million, and led Aviv and Matteo to a chance meeting with Rubi Liani, the founder of Israeli's official drone racing league (FRIL). Liani turned the brothers on to drone racing and planted the seed of the idea for their next startup, Xtend, which he helped found.

Monzo has raised another £150 million ($190 million), as the challenger bank looks to expand its presence internationally — particularly in the U.S. The new round comes just two months after Monzo raised £340 million ($425 million), meaning the London-based company has now raised north of $610 million in 2024, and $1.5 billion since its inception nine years ago. The first tranche of the Series I round saw Alphabet's CapitalG and Google's GV make a rare co-investment, alongside notable backers including HongShan Capital (formerly Sequoia Capital China), Passion Capital and Tencent.

Two-year-old Israeli startup Panax is one, and it just raised a $10 million Series A round of funding led by Team8, with participation from TLV Partners. SVB's collapse created tailwinds for the cash management category, which includes players such as Embat, Kyriba, Statement and Vesto.

FTX crypto fraud victims to get their money back -- plus interest
Bankruptcy lawyers representing customers impacted by the dramatic crash of cryptocurrency exchange FTX 17 months ago say that the vast majority of victims will receive their money back -- plus interest. The news comes six months after FTX co-founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) was found guilty on seven counts related to fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering, with some $8 billion of customers' funds going missing. SBF was hit with a 25-year prison sentence in March, and ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture.

Brandywine Realty Trust says data stolen in ransomware attack
U.S. realty trust giant Brandywine Realty Trust has confirmed a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of data from its network. In a filing with regulators on Tuesday, the Philadelphia-based Brandywine described the cybersecurity incident as unauthorized access and the "deployment of encryption" on its internal corporate IT systems, consistent with a ransomware attack. Brandywine said the cyberattack caused disruption to the company's business applications that support its operations and corporate functions, including its financial reporting systems.
