How a Weymouth entrepreneur eases the pain of New England Chinese food withdrawals

New England Chinese restaurants offer unique menu items that might be hard to find in other parts of the country, a fact that might come as a surprise when someone who grew up here moves away.

Weymouth resident and entrepreneur Jim Lawlor wants to ease the pain of going cold turkey from pu pu platters and lobster sauce, pork fried rice and, yes, even rolls that many former New Englanders take for granted.

His business, Bamboos Nation Interstate, which launched this month, sends frozen Chinese meals from local restaurants, including Imperial Garden in Hanover and Tahiti in Dedham, to anywhere in the country.

Other restaurants that are taking part include Kowloon in Saugus and Fantasy Island in Salem.

Lawlor has decades of experience with social media and other forms of marketing, along with professional ties to local Chinese restaurants. He first broached the idea for the business on the New England Chinese Food Support Group on Facebook, where it received an overwhelmingly positive response.

"If you love and miss that unique Boston and New England-style Chinese food that you just can’t find anywhere else, we’re here to help," Lawlor posted to Bamboos Nation Interstate's Facebook page.

Pricing for a family meal of appetizers, rice and entrees starts at $189.
