Tuesday marked the 9th anniversary of the tragic April 9, 2015 EF4 tornado. Peak tornado season in Illinois is April through June.

WGN’s Very Own Tom Skilling tells us:

We marked the tragic 9th anniversary of the horrific April 9, 2015 EF4 (200 mph wind-generating) Rochelle, IL tornado Tuesday—a twister responsible for 2 deaths and 22 injuries. The twister touched down at 6:39 pm in the evening then roared along a 30 mile path through until dissipating at 7:20 pm that evening. It’s 41 minute life span took it across a swath of DeKalb, Ogle and Boone Counties. The damage this storm produced was extensive and amounted to $19-million.

On April 8, 2024, millions of Americans saw day turn temporarily to night as the Moon passed between the Sun and Earth to create a total solar eclipse.

The Moon’s shadow was cast over North America, from the Pacific coast of Mexico, through Texas, and over the Great Lakes and crossing the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Watch this video from NASA of the shadow sweeping over earth:
