Westport Wagon coming down, will be replaced Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After six decades in Kansas City, a historic landmark is coming down on Wednesday.

Owners of the “Westport Wagon” say it’s old, falling apart and needs to be replaced.

If you have lived in Kansas City for any number of years or driven through Westport – you have probably seen this wagon in the Old Westport Shopping Center.

It was put up back in 1963 when the shopping center was built, so as you can imagine, it has been through a lot of wear and tear over the last 61 years.

According to the Westport Historical Society, it is rotten and is sinking into the rocks, so they are replacing it with a newer and better version of the same type of wagon today.

Cooper Weeks, the owner of the Old Westport Shopping Center, says the wagon has historical significance because wagons used to come right down Westport Road, right in front of where the wagon stands.
