West Virginia State Police investigating deaths of twin toddlers in Raleigh County

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — West Virginia State Police are investigating the deaths of 2-year-old twin girls in Lanark on February 28, 2024, Raleigh County officials confirmed on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Hatfield said the investigation into the deaths of Ava and Amina Johnson, both 2 years old, is pending.

Trooper C. Harvey of the Beckley detachment of West Virginia State Police said on Monday that a 911 caller to Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center asked for help for two toddlers who were having “seizures.”

He said the call was placed on the morning of Feb. 28.

Trooper Harvey said State Police troopers arrived at 9:30 a.m. and found both babies dead.

Their bodies were sent to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office.

Trooper Harvey declined to comment when asked if the twins lived at the Lanark home where they reportedly became ill.
