WellSpan breaks ground on new York County hospital

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) — WellSpan officially broke ground for the new WellSpan Shrewsbury Hospital on Tuesday, April 23.

The new hospital located at 13515 Wolfe Road in New Freedom will offer an emergency department with 10 inpatient beds for treating falls, injuries, burns, and infections.

Furthermore, the new facility will provide diagnostic capabilities including:

  • Ultrasound

  • Computed tomography (CT)

  • X-ray

  • Laboratory services

The new hospital will operate 24/7 365 days a year and is expected to open in late 2025.

“At WellSpan our focus on increasing access to high-quality care for all the communities we serve has led us to reimagine how hospital-level care can be offered in a convenient way, meeting our patients where they are,” Victoria Diamond, senior vice president of WellSpan Health’s Central Region said. “This hospital, located just off Interstate 83, will bring essential medical services to a region currently underserved. That’s our commitment, as the leading healthcare provider in the area.”

According to WellSpan, this new hospital is one of three new hospitals that they are constructing over the next two years, which includes facilities in Carlisle and Newberry Township.
