Weekend showers ahead but plenty of dry time!

Tonight features scattered showers and storms, some of which could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy dense fog will also be possible as we head toward dawn, with low temperatures dropping into the upper 50s.

Saturday does bring forth some good news, as the area of low pressure responsible for bringing showers to the region bobbles south. This means we’ll have more breaks in showers, with some of our northern counties only seeing a few isolated showers! High temperatures will be in the low 70s.

Sunday keeps the risk for scattered showers and storms, especially early, but there should be plenty of dry time than Saturday in the afternoon as our low pressure system scoots off to the south and east. We’ll see high temperatures in the low 70s.

The forgotten history of Memorial Day

Monday looks great! High pressure will be in control and that should bring nice weather into the region with plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s.

Tuesday will be dry for most of the day, but an isolated shower or two in the afternoon is possible as our next system begins to approach. High temperatures will be in the low 80s.

Wednesday brings forth the potential scattered storms, with a cold front approaching from our west. This will increase rain chances, especially by the afternoon, with high temperatures in the low 80s.

Thursday continues our risk for a few showers with high temperatures in the mid 70s as our front crosses, followed by a northwest flow behind the cold front providing us with a few showers.

Friday could provide a few isolated showers in the morning with plenty of sun expected by the afternoon with highs in the low 70s.

Looking ahead, the pattern is a little quieter overall. The Memorial Day weekend at this juncture is looking great with high pressure in control both Saturday and Sunday and high temperatures near 80 degrees under plenty of sun. A few storms will be possible on Memorial Day itself with highs in the upper 70s but some changes will be possible between now and then.

We are in spring forest fire season in West Virginia – this means don’t burn between 7 AM and 5 PM through May 31st. Low humidity values during the daytime, along with breezier and warmer conditions will at times increase the fire threat, hence the burn ban during most of the daytime. Follow all regulations or be faced with potential consequences, such as fines!
