Weather nixes some Memorial Day ceremonies, celebrations

LINGLESTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) — Some Memorial Day parades and ceremonies in the Midstate have been cancelled due to forecasted severe weather.

In Dauphin County, the Linglestown Memorial Day Parade was cancelled.

Officials said it was a difficult decision, but safety is their top priority.

Chambersburg has also cancelled its parade.

Over in Carlisle, they have cancelled their outdoor Memorial Day Parade due to predicted inclement weather. Instead, they will have an indoor Memorial Day service at 10:00 a.m. in the historic second floor courtroom of the Old Cumberland County Courthouse.

In Elizabethtown, they have canceled their Memorial Day Parade because of the forested weather. Although the parade is canceled, a Memorial Service will be held at the American Legion building on 240 North Hanover Street at 11 a.m.

The Veteran’s Council has canceled the Shippensburg Memorial Parade and festivities due to rain.

Weather hasn’t cancelled them all, though.

Rain or shine, a Memorial Day remembrance will be held at the Lincoln Colored Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. That will be at 2 p.m. Monday.
