Watertown City School District voters approve budget; newcomer and two incumbents get three-year board seats

May 21—WATERTOWN — Voters officially approved Watertown City School District's nearly $97 million spending plan on Tuesday.

The final vote tally was 428 yes votes, and 100 no votes.

The spending plan is $96,852,744 in total, an increase from last year's $92,067,925, or roughly a 5.2% increase, but with no tax levy increase.

Also approved by voters on Tuesday were three other propositions, one that will let voters register year round, another that will allow for the district to establish an information technology reserve and a buildings and grounds reserve.

The continuous voter registration passed by a 444-78 vote; the technology reserve fund passed by a vote of 450-78; and the buildings and grounds equipment reserve fund passed 458-70.

The funds will be used in case of an emergency involving technology or the buildings and grounds.

Two of the three incumbent school board members, Rande S. Richardson and Lorie L. Converse were voted to stay in their three-year seats, while newcomer Tina Fluno will be joining them in a three-year seat.

Milagros C. "Milly" Smith received the one year seat vacated by Frederic J. Sovie.

Richardson received 435 votes; Fluno received 376 votes; Converse received 343 votes; and Smith received 304 votes.

Smith's seat will be up for election next spring.
