Waterford man killed in Oakdale crash identified by Stanislaus Coroner’s Office

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the 34-year-old man killed early Saturday in a crash in Oakdale as Daniel Steffens.

The crash into a power line pole on Yosemite Avenue north of Wakefield Drive happened a bit before 1:40 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation found that Steffens, driving a 2012 Audi sedan, was southbound in the “slow lane” of South Yosemite when he veered left into the northbound lanes. He continued onto the raised concrete curb before hitting the Pacific Gas & Electric pole.

Steffens, alone in his car, was wearing his seat belt, a CHP news release says. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, the release says. It makes no mention of speed or efforts to brake.

Steffens was pronounced dead at the scene.

A GoFundMe page gives his name as Daniel Wayne Steffens Jr. and says survivors include his wife and three Children.
