Update on water incident in Chetek
CHETEK, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – We have an update after two La Crosse men were rescued earlier this month from the water near the docks at a bar-restaurant in Chetek. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald confirms a man died after being in critical condition. The other man was treated at the scene and released. Fitzgerald says the sheriff’s office will not be releasing his name.
An initial investigation showed one of the men fell in the water while trying to get into a boat. When he didn’t surface, the other man jumped in to find him. He began to struggle and was helped out of the water. Authorities consider alcohol to be a contributing factor.
