WATCH: Local officers help man with broken down wheelchair

UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, Ohio (WJW) — University Circle Police Chief Tom Wetzel praised a young officer for going “above and beyond” this week.

When a man’s motorized wheelchair malfunctioned on Wednesday, right in the crosswalk at Circle Drive and Cornell Road, officer Nick Jennette “went right into action,” the department posted to its Facebook page.

Jennette pushed the man about a third of a mile to his home, Wetzel said. Watch video from the police department in the player above.

“Today, he’s really sore,” Wetzel said wryly.

“It just really goes above and beyond,” he told FOX 8 News on Thursday, “You don’t see cops do that. It’s not that common. … It was a beautiful example of community policing at its best.”
