Wastewater overflow reported near Dog River

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System has reported a wastewater overflow due to a broken mainline.

Gulf Shores police crack down on spring breakers, make over 100 arrests

MAWSS responded to the overflow, located at 1526 Canal Road, on March 19.

LOCATION OF OVERFLOW:

According to a MAWSS press release, approximately 425 gallons of wastewater overflowed into Perch Creek after a break on a low-pressure force main.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency explains that “force mains are used to convey wastewater from a lower to higher elevation, particularly where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow and/or the use of gravity conveyance will result in excessive excavation depths and high sewer pipeline construction costs.”

Efforts to change Mobile police policy blocked by city council

Officials say crews repaired the force main and have taken steps to prevent overflows at the location.
