Washington Street underpass to see lane closures starting April 24

Apr. 19—GRAND FORKS — Traffic on North Washington Street will be reduced to one lane starting April 24 as construction begins on the rehabilitation of the underpass.

Traffic will be moved to the southbound lanes as the North Dakota Department of Transportation begins rehabilitation of the aging underpass. Later this summer, traffic will switch to the northbound side with one lane in each direction. The construction zone is between First Avenue North and DeMers Avenue and

construction is expected to go on until November two-year project.

During the construction, Washington Street will not be a designated truck route. North-south truck traffic will be routed to use Interstate 29. Trucks can still make deliveries on South Washington Street but will be unable to traverse the construction zone.

Also starting next week, the rail underpass in East Grand Forks near the intersection of River Street and Hill Street will be periodically closed. The periodic closures begin April 22 and are expected to last two weeks.
