Washington County, Tennessee to offer second 101 program for residents

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Washington County, Tennessee residents can participate in an upcoming adult educational program to enhance citizen awareness and understanding of the government’s role in the community.

Washington County Commissioners passed a resolution to create the second 101 program during the monthly meeting on Monday.

The four-week interactive program will offer an overview of the county government, justice center, election office, health department and sheriff’s office. Participants will take part in hands-on activities, tours, presentations and question-and-answer sessions.

“Ideally, we would like to see a participant from each of the 15 districts in order to get
representation from the entire county,” Commission Chair Greg Matherly said. “This will be
a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the many services our county provides.”

Classes will meet at various locations throughout the county from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Tuesdays starting July 9 through July 30. Participants will “graduate” at the Aug. 26 County Commission meeting.

Participants should attend all four classes, be over 18, and be Washington County residents. Applicants will undergo a background check from the sheriff’s office.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis and the class size is limited to 20 people.

Applications will close June 7 and can be downloaded here.
