Warming trend underway for the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy weekend, Utah! A few lingering pop-up showers are possible in the southeastern part of the state due to an exiting system, but overall, a really nice day is ahead. High pressure will build in as we go through the weekend resulting in calm skies sticking around while temperatures continue to warm.

Today in northern Utah, we’ll see temperatures run a few degrees warmer than yesterday, taking most into the 50s and 60s, while Salt Lake could make a run for 70. In southern Utah, highs will be similar to what we had on our Thursday with a mix of 60s and 70s outside of the high country, while lower elevations will reach the low to mid 80s like in St. George and Moab. By Sunday we could be looking at highs in the mid 70s along the Wasatch Front, near 60 in Park City, and we could get close to 90 in St. George! The above average warmth and mostly quiet pattern looks to persist through the first half of next week with some subtle changes before bigger changes could arrive by the end of next week.

Our dry pattern will hold on which sounds great but unfortunately, the beautiful spring weather comes with a cost for allergy sufferers. Pollen counts are in the extreme category this weekend with the main culprit being tree pollens, and any tiny bit of wind easily spreads those pollens. We don’t have a chance of wet weather, which would suppress pollen impacts, until late next week.

The bottom line? Very pleasant, beautiful spring weather expected over the next few days as temperatures go on a warming trend.
