White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre jokingly appeared to offer Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy the job of playing Donald Trump in President Joe Biden’s debate prep on Wednesday.

Jean-Pierre had just finished shooting down some of Doocy’s questioning at the White House press briefing about Biden accepting two debates with his predecessor earlier that day. The Hatch Act restricts employees in the executive branch of the federal government, except the president and vice president, from engaging in partisan political activities such as campaigns.

Biden and Trump both agreed Wednesday to a debate hosted by CNN on June 27, a historically early showdown for a presidential election. They also agreed to a second debate on September 10 hosted by ABC News.

“Not a debate-specific question, but debate prep is something that traditionally can happen here at the White House,” Doocy then followed up. “Who is going to stand in during the prep for Donald Trump?”

“Who’s going to stand in? Do you want to stand in for Donald Trump? Do you want to do that? I can connect you with the campaign,” Jean-Pierre responded. “That might be fun for you.”

“So, you’re saying I can go debate Joe Biden behind the scenes for as long as I want?” Doocy asked excitedly.

“I think that might be fun for both of you,” the press secretary said.
