'I was waiting for him to come home': Sister of Goodyear Heights homicide victim among 911 callers

The sister of a 20-year-old Akron man who was found fatally shot last week in front of a Goodyear Heights apartment complex was among several people who called 911 to report the shooting.

"I think he's dead. He's not breathing," she could be heard crying in the call.

In 911 calls released by Akron police Monday, neighbors of the Newton Street apartments reported hearing at least 20 gunshots Wednesday night that left one victim, 20-year-old Alexander Grant, dead and another unidentified 58-year-old woman hospitalized.

A woman who identified herself as Grant's sister reported reported finding her brother shot multiple times in a car, not knowing if he was alive. She said her brother appeared to be passed out in the car, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. She also said the unidentified woman in the car had been shot, too.

She reported not knowing where the two victims were shot or who shot them.

"I didn't see who shot them. I was in the bed asleep. I was waiting for him to come home," Grant's sister told the operator. "I'm out here looking at him right now trying to see if he is OK."

Another caller, who said they were a neighbor, reported hearing about 30 gun shots go off a few blocks away, but said they did not see anything.

"It was crazy," they told the operator. "It sounded like an AK. I figure you are going to get a lot of calls [about this.]"

First responders eventually found Grant on the ground of the parking lot around 4:40 a.m. where he was pronounced dead on the scene. The second victim was transported to the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation.
