Voters reject proposed Corning-Painted Post school district budget. See area results.

Voters in the Corning-Painted Post School District on Tuesday rejected the proposed $139 million budget featuring a 4.97% tax levy hike.

The budget exceeded the state tax cap and required a supermajority with the support of at least 60% of voters to pass. Just over 50% of voters supported the budget, which received 1,431 "yes" votes and 1,418 "no" votes.

Voters did approve a funding increase for the Southeast Steuben County Library. The $1.5 million spending plan was approved by 60.8% of voters 1,734-1,118. Voters also passed a proposition to purchase buses and vehicles, 1,725-1,118.

Corning-Painted Post voters elected three candidates to the Board of Education, incumbent Kelley Bacalles (2,209 votes), newcomer Sam Nichols (1,673 votes), and Kevin Ashton (1,445 votes).

Addison Central School District

  • Voters approved the $36,161,150 budget 246-120. The budget included a 1% tax levy hike.

  • Two seats on the Addison Board of Election will be filled by James Mosher and James Mitchell, to five-year terms.

Bath Central School District

  • Voters approved the $47,907.858 budget, that includes a 2.1% tax hike.

  • A bus proposal referendum was passed by voters.

  • An open seat on the Bath Central School District Board of Education will be filled by Tess McKinley.

Bradford Central School District

  • Voters approved the $10,327,414 spending plan, that includes a 4.5% tax hike.

  • Transportation referendums passed overwhelmingly.

  • Seats on the Bradford Central School District Board of Education will be filled by Alicia Palmer and Thomas Torpy Jr.

Campbell-Savona Central School District

  • Voters approved the $26,164,445 budget, 156 yes to 64 no. The budget has a 2% tax levy increase.

  • A seat on the Campbell-Savona Central School Board of Education was won by Ricky Salvagin, who will serve a five-year term.

  • The Savona Library vote passed 118 yes to 103 no.

Horseheads Central School District

  • A proposed nearly $102.7 million budget, up 9.37% from the current spending plan, also included a 9.36% increase in the tax levy that required 60% voter approval to override a mandated 2% state cap on a tax levy hike.

  • Voters provided that supermajority, with 1,824 (66.81%) voting yes, and 906 voting no. Residents also approved a proposition to buy new school buses by a vote of 1,732 to 985.

  • There were eight candidates running for three seats on the Horseheads Board of Education. The top three vote-getters were Julie Monahan with 1,130, Susan Ungvarsky with 1,187, and Kristine Dale with 1,058 votes.

Watkins Glen Central School District

  • Voters approved the $30,189,050 spending plan with 195 yes votes.

  • Voters approved the leasing of diesel buses with 202 yes votes.

  • Seats on the Watkins Glen Board of Elections will be filled by Joe Stansfield, 156 votes, and Barbara Schimizzi, 134 votes, to three-year terms.
