Voters elected Jeanne Snodgrass and Alvin Cobbins to terms on the Columbia school board

Voters on Tuesday elected Jeanne Snodgrass and Alvin Cobbins to three-year terms on the Columbia Board of Education.

In final, but unofficial election results on Tuesday, Snodgrass had 11,142 votes; Cobbins, 10,310 votes; and John Potter, 5,782 votes.

It's a second term for Snodgrass, whose first campaign was during COVID with most forums on Zoom instead of in-person as in this campaign.

"I'm very thankful for another term to continue our work," Snodgrass by phone from her election party.

It's a first election for Cobbins.

"It's just amazing," Cobbins said, from the same party.

He's ready to start serving the school district on Monday, he said.

He's pleased with his campaign, he said.

"It started slow, but as it went along, I learned more, Cobbins said.

The results again demonstrate the influence of the Columbia teachers' union, which endorsed Cobbins and Snodgrass.

The school board members will be sworn in at Monday's meeting and the board will choose its president.
