Yahoo Autos Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept
Following the release of the Maybach Vision 6 and the refreshed Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the company has released another concept, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury. Combining sedan and SUV body styles, the Ultimate Luxury (creative name!) is fully electric, sending power to all four wheels via four individual permanent-magnet synchronous motors. It also looks... interesting.
Let's get the exterior out of the way. The front looks nice and concept-y, and those 24-inch turbine wheels are pretty sweet. But once you get to the rear, things start to go wrong. It's like Mercedes tried to make an S-Class that could go mudding, but mixed up the numbers used to change the proportions. Maybe it would look nicer carving up a sand dune, through a snow-covered road, or up a rock-covered hill. But these photos aren't helping.
The inside is a bit more straightforward. Mercedes calls it "the ultimate embodiment of a luxury dream automobile," with all sorts of expensive fabrics, Nappa leather, and custom aluminum trim pieces. Like in the S-Class, the driver gets dual 12.3-inch screens. The seat backs, as well as several other trim pieces, are coated in rose gold.
An 80kWh battery pack occupies the vehicle floor, capable of 750 horsepower and a range of more than 200 miles. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
Mercedes hasn't yet revealed whether it'll produce the Ultimate Luxury, but with demand for ultra-luxurious crossovers and SUVs on the rise, we wouldn't be surprised to see a high-riding Maybach-branded car of some sort hit dealerships sometime in the future.
