Virginia Senator Mark Warner comments on DOJ suing Ticketmaster

RICHMOND, VA (WVNS) — If you’ve gone to a concert in the past few years, you’ve probably gotten some serious sticker shock. Finally, it looks like something might be done about it.

Despite new aid from West Virginia, problems with FAFSA persist

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its owner Live Nation, accusing the companies of running an illegal monopoly over live events that has led to higher prices for fans.

Thirty state and district attorneys general have attached themselves to the lawsuit, which has gotten support from both sides of the aisle.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) commented on the lawsuit, saying it’s been a long time coming.

We need to have better consumer protections and we need to be concerned about concentration in industries where it appears this company like Ticketmaster charging way too high a fee, seems like it to, you know, treats customers awfully. It may be a little bit of a commentary on where we are in our country that it took Taylor Swift and her fans, the Swifties, to get as upset as they did to maybe bring this to the full kind of attention it merits. But this Ticketmaster issue has been going on for years, and I support what the FTC is doing.

The lawsuit could break up Live Nation and Ticketmaster. Ultimately, it aims to give artists and consumers greater choice and better terms.
