Before the murder, prosecutors say Khalil Shariff Jackson searched for terms such as “AR15”, “Virginia Beach Murder,” and “can you make a bullet untraceable.”

Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle announced Jackson’s sentencing on Monday. This comes after Jackson pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and related gun charges.

As part of a plea agreement through Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys David W. Laird and Joseph A. DiNonno, Circuit Court Judge James C. Lewis suspended 18 years of a 38-year sentence for those charges, leaving 20 to serve.

Stolle’s office says Jackson fired three shots with a rifle just after 1 a.m. on April 7, 2023 outside Parlay’s II on Princess Anne Road, killing his ex’s boyfriend, Amonte Walkup.

Walkup was shot in the head as he and Jackson’s ex left the bar’s parking lot in a car. Jackson’s ex was able to get away and later identified Jackson as the suspect through surveillance footage. He was later arrested in Georgia on May 18, 2023.

The video showed Jackson fire three shots and retrieve the ejected shell casings before fleeing through a cut-through behind the bar.

Prosecutors say Jackson was upset that his ex, the mother of his children, was with Walkup and that Walkup was around the children. He told his ex that he had people watching her, and he repeatedly called and texted her saying he would kill her and shoot up her home, prosecutors say.
