Village elections 2024: These candidates won Hornell area elections on March 19

A former trustee and an incumbent board member were elected in North Hornell as residents around the region voted in village elections Tuesday.

Democrat Josh Greenthal will return to the North Hornell Village Board after previously serving a pair of terms then taking time off. Greenthal finished with 55 votes to win a two-year term.

Republican Trustee Peter DiRaimondo took the other village board seat in North Hornell, winning reelection to a two-year term with 49 votes.

The other candidate on the ballot, former trustee Elise McCollulmn, finished in third place with 45 votes.

Frank Libordi, a former independent trustee, picked up 32 write-in votes. Sean Gaffney had one write-in vote.

Incumbent Trustee Brian Friedland was not a candidate for reelection.

Dansville

Meanwhile, in Dansville, Republican Kathy Button defeated Democrat Dennis Wiedman 362-203. This was a special election to fill the remaining three years of a four-year term on the board of trustees.

Alfred

Board of Trustees: Meredith Field and Catherine Powers won two-year terms. A total of 38 voters went to the polls in Alfred. Powers had 37 votes and Field had 35. Both were unopposed.

Almond

Mayor: Dennis George was reelected running unopposed for a two-year term.

Board of Trustees (two years): Andrea McMahon and Paul Gilbert were elected.

Board of Trustees (one year): Shelley Flint won to fill a board vacancy.

Arkport

Mayor: George Prete, a Democrat, was reelected Tuesday. No other candidates were on the ballot for mayor, as Prete picked up 34 votes.

Village Board: Republican Ryan Beers (31 votes) and Democrat Patricia Amidon (21 votes) both were reelected to their seats.

Four different candidates received one write-in vote each Tuesday.

Bath

Mayor: Michael Sweet won a new two-year term running unopposed and finishing with 62 votes.

Board of Trustees: Karen Causer and Jeffrey Muller were both elected to four-year terms. Muller had 72 votes, while Causer finished with 61.

Village Justice: Robert Plaskov, with 77 votes, was elected to a four-year term.

Belmont

Board of Trustees: Incumbents Scott Grantier had 23 votes and Lisa Schmitt picked up 21, with both winning four-year terms, running unopposed.

Canaseraga

Mayor: Incumbent Edna Brewster picked up 17 votes to win a one-year unexpired term. One write-in vote was cast.

Board of Trustees: Terry Gordon picked up 19 votes and Shawn Brewster had 18 votes, both winning two-year terms. Lisa O'Dell was elected to fill a board vacancy. She won with 18 votes.

Canisteo

David Robinson, an incumbent, and Greg Woodworth both won election to the two-year terms on the Canisteo Village Board. Amy Wint received one write-in vote for the board of trustees.

Cohocton

Board of Trustees: Incumbents Kathryn Gray and Mathew McCarthy won new two-year terms in Tuesday's voting.

Village Justice: Robby Anger won a four-year term without an opposition candidate.
