Views of the northern lights in Norris area

Many people in the East Tennessee area saw the aurora borealis, or northern lights over the weekend, especially on Friday night or the wee hours of Saturday morning, May 10-11. The colorful aurora forms when particles flowing from the sun get caught up in Earth's magnetic field. The particles interact with molecules of atmospheric gases to cause the famed glowing green and reddish colors of the aurora.
