VIDEO: Oakland retail store burglarized on Easter Sunday
(KRON) – Taylor Jay, a small retail business in Oakland, was burglarized on Sunday, according to the business’s Instagram posts. The burglary happened around 5:30 a.m. After breaking the glass on the front door, security video a man coming inside the store and helping himself to a wide array of goods.
“We need the city to take action and stop this from happening to us,” said owner Taylor Jay. “This is not fair; this is Easter Sunday this is a Sunday we should be spending time with our loved ones and enjoying this day and not having to clean up glass.”
The Oakland Police Department confirmed it was notified of a burglary at the location at 9:45 p.m. Friday.
“Upon arrival, officers determined an unknown individual entered the front of the business by shattering the glass door,” an OPD spokesperson said. “Once inside, the individuals conducted a search, before exiting the business through the rear door, with the loss.”
Jay says the burglar was in the store for 15 minutes and made off with iPads, cell phones and thousands and dollars of clothing, bags and accessories.

Jay was walking to her retail store when she noticed the shattered glass window. Upon entering her store, she noticed an empty rack and shelves where the store displayed inventory. The merchandise in the backroom was also missing.
“This is so disappointing. I can’t believe this is happening to us in Oakland right now,” said Jay in the Instagram video. “I’m having a hard time even watching the footage of this guy just taking things.”
According to the store, the burglar utilized the store’s suitcases to pack the stolen merchandise. The burglar also stole multiple samples from their new skin collection.
Taylor Jay has been in business for 10 years and takes pride in the fact her garments are not only designed in Oakland but made in the city as well.
The Taylor Jay store has two locations: 2355 Broadway Suite 1 and 5550 College Avenue. The store on Broadway was burglarized. Oakland PD described the investigation into the incident as active.
