VIDEO: Car goes airborne and flips on side in southeast Albuquerque neighborhood

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A southeast Albuquerque woman caught the moment a car went airborne and landed on its side in a residential neighborhood. The crash happened around 4:40 p.m. Thursday on Trumbull Avenue SE at Chama Street SE, according to Melissa Hernandez, who was a witness.

Hernandez said she was getting ready to take her son to work when she heard a loud crash. When she looked at her home security camera, she saw what happened. The video showed two vehicles driving down Trumbull Avenue SE, one of which appeared to accelerate fast. That vehicle was next seen going into the air and landing on the driver’s side while it skidded down the street.

“So we had ran out to help the person that was in the car, but it was pretty much the lady and her dog that were in there,” said Hernandez. “They were okay. She just had a little burn mark on her leg a little.” Hernandez then called for help and said an ambulance, fire crew, and the police showed up.

Hernandez, who has lived in the area for nine years, said that speeding is a common thing she has seen there. “I’ve seen it all, like maybe like, going too fast, you can just…no, they never stop at the stop sign, they just keep going. It’s a common thing every single day,” she said.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue confirmed that they did respond to a rollover crash on Chama Street and cleared the scene shortly after 5 p.m.

KRQE News 13 reached out to the Albuquerque Police Department for information on the crash. We are waiting to hear back.
