Victor Valley College Board to fill seat after death of Trustee Dennis Henderson

The Victor Valley Community College Board of Trustees is looking to fill a vacated seat after the sudden death of Trustee Dennis Henderson.

College officials announced the death of Henderson, 77, on Thursday, April 18. He was the longest-serving member of the college's board of trustees, the Daily Press reported.

Funeral arrangements and details for commemorating Henderson's life will be announced shortly.

Soliciting applications

The Victor Valley Community College District is soliciting applications for a person to serve as an appointed board member who will oversee Trustee Area No. 5, which includes Apple Valley and Lucerne Valley.

The appointed trustee will serve on the board until the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members on Nov. 5, 2024.

The board governs on behalf of the citizens of the Victor Valley Community College District, which serves over 21,000 students annually.

They are responsible for institutional performance and educational quality, with the direction to provide vital educational services to the communities in the region.

The board meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Additional meetings may be held each month as study sessions, or as needed.

Appointee inquiries

Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on May 20 and must be submitted in person.

Interested candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered:

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Must be a registered voter in the district

  • Must reside within the Victor Valley Community College District Trustee Area 5.
