Victims found dead after Rancho Cordova standoff were parents of deceased suspect

(FOX40.COM) — Two people found dead following a standoff in Rancho Cordova early Thursday morning were the parents of the suspect, who also died, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

Law enforcement responded to a call from a woman, later identified as 69-year-old Marylou Konvalin, saying she had been shot at a residence on Hartselle Way.

At the home, deputies from the sheriff’s office and Rancho Cordova Police found the woman deceased in the front doorway. The sheriff’s office said they also suspected a second victim was inside the home.

The sheriff’s office said they also saw the suspect, 38-year-old Thomas Konvalin, standing in the doorway before he barricaded himself inside the home.

According to the sheriff’s office, a roughly 3-hour standoff ensued and ended when the suspect crawled out the back window with a rifle and was fatally shot three times by two deputies.

Authorities also found William Konvalin, 72, deceased inside the home.

The sheriff’s office said the deputies who shot Thomas Konvalin have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is pending.
