Victim robbed in downtown Berkeley after suspect pointed gun at 2-year-old child: police

(KRON) — Two people committed a robbery in Berkeley on May 1 after pointing a gun at the victim’s 2-year-old child, the Berkeley Police Department said. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery.

The robbery happened at about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Bancroft Way and Shattuck Avenue, right in downtown Berkeley. The suspects had already fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Officers learned that two suspects approached the victims, pointed a handgun at the adult victim’s head and demanded their property. The suspect then pointed the gun at the young child and hit the adult victim with the gun.

The suspects took the victim’s items and got into a car being driven by a third suspect.

Officers obtained the suspect vehicle’s information, found it, and attempted to stop it. The car did not stop and drove away at high speeds, BPD said.

Police followed the car from Berkeley into Oakland, where it crashed. All three suspects attempted to run away. All three were arrested eventually; one suspect was taken into custody after trying to run across I-580.

Police recovered the stolen property and handgun during the investigation.
