Vice President Kamala Harris calls for cease-fire in Gaza
WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – While in Selma, Alabama Sunday to commemorate a turning point in the civil rights movement, Vice President Kamala Harris called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
These were some of the most forceful words yet coming from the vice president.
“Too many innocent Palestinians have been killed,” she said.
Harris is set to meet with Israeli war cabinet members in Washington Monday.
“The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid,” she added.
On Friday the U.S. dropped over 38,000 meals along the coastline of Gaza allowing civilian access to the critical aid.
“It gives us an opportunity not only for the release of hostages, but to get humanitarian assistance into the innocent people,” said Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.)
Maryland Democrat Ben Cardin and Ohio Republican Mike Turner are hoping a deal between Israel and Hamas can be reached sooner rather than later.
“The Palestinians are being held hostage by Hamas. They’re down in bunkers. Shows exactly that Hamas is really all about Iran and not about the Palestinians,” said Turner.
The White House says their goal is to get aid directly to the people in Gaza and they’re pushing for Congress to pass an aid package that would help with more supplies.
