Vettel posts fastest lap in final practice session at Canadian Grand Prix

MONTREAL - Sebastian Vettel, who is seeking a first Canadian Grand Prix victory, set the fastest pace in the final practice session on Saturday morning.

The Red Bull driver who is the two-time defending Formula One driving champion completed a best lap of one minute 14.442 seconds on the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was second quickest at 1:14.448 with Lewis Hamilton of McLaren Mercedes third at 1:14.712.

The second Red Bull car driven by Monaco winner Mark Webber was fourth at 1:14.724 with Spanish Grand Prix winner Pastor Maldonado fifth in his Williams. Felipe Massa was sixth best at 1:14.796 in the second Ferrari.

It was the last time on the track for the drivers before qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The race is set for Sunday.

The session had just started when Nico Rosberg's Petronas Mercedes stopped on the track with clutch trouble, causing a brief delay. That ended his practice after one lap.

Jean-Eric Vergne slid his Toro Rosso car into a tire barrier only three laps in.
