Veterans Service Commission to provide information at home show

May 1—ASHTABULA — The Ashtabula County Veterans Service Commission will be on hand at the Ashtabula County Home and Family show to provide information to area veterans about the services the commission makes available to those who have served.

Benjamin Schwartfigure, director of the VSC, said this is the first time the organization has been part of the show.

"We're just going to set up and do outreach like we normally do," he said. "We'll have a lot of our fliers and information, copies of our most recent newsletter."

Schwartfigure said two members of the VSC staff will be at the group's booth to meet veterans as they arrive and let them know about the commission.

"Primarily, we provide assistance with the development of applications for different service-connected disabilities, applications for pension benefits, home-loan guarantee eligibility documents, education benefits, state and federal benefits," he said. "We also provide emergency financial assistance, and transportation to VA medical centers in both Erie and Cleveland.

The show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Ashtabula Towne Square in Ashtabula Township.

Show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
