Veteran resource fair coming to Glen Jean Armory

GLEN JEAN, WV (WVNS)– More than 30 vendors decided to come together at the Glen Jean Armory this Thursday, May 2, 2024 for a veteran resource fair.

The veteran resource fair is open to all military members both past and present with a valid military ID, as well as to their families.

The goal of the fair is to offer all kinds of helpful resources to veterans, all in one place. Some resources include free meals (for military members only, families and friends must pay), free haircuts, reduced pet adoption costs, help with finances and disability claims, employment opportunities, door prizes and much more.

Heather Neal and Kelli Persinger, who are soldier family readiness specialists with the armory, said the event is a great way to show community support and raise awareness about the resources out there.

Neal said, “It’s just an honor to be able to give back to them and all that they’ve done. You know, sometimes we get to listen to their stories and just them tell about things they have been through.”

“A lot of the times they’re really strapped to make sure they can get food on the table and the prescriptions that they need, so any services like that that we can provide for free really helps alleviate any extra strain they might have during the month,” added Persinger.

Neal and Persinger said this is the third annual veteran resource fair at the armory, and they hope it only continues to grow each year.

The fair is sponsored by Aetna Medicare, and will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The address is 409 Wood Mountain Road, Glen Jean, WV 25946.
