Vet care provider to build HQ in Walker, consolidate

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — A nonprofit that provides veterinary care and works to combat pet overpopulation is set to build its headquarters in Walker.

The Community Spay Neuter Initiative Partnership says it has run out of space at its existing Grand Rapids and Fruitport locations. By merging its three existing locations into one 12,000-square foot clinic, CSNIP will be able to provide more “high-volume, reduced-cost veterinary services for financially challenged pet owners,” the nonprofit announced Tuesday in a release.

“We have run out of room, limiting our capacity to meet growing demand. By bringing all our services under one roof, we are improving and expanding service delivery and organizational efficiencies to benefit our clients, their pets and our communities,” said CSNIP Executive Director Sharon Caldwell-Newton in a statement.

The nonprofit says it chose the Walker site for its “geographic accessibility,” including proximity to highways. At the clinic, CSNIP will offer spay and neuter surgery, wellness exams, microchip implants, vaccinations, soft tissue surgery, dental cleaning and more.

The facility will be located at 1300 Walker Village Dr. NW, near Leonard Street NW. Construction is set to begin in July, and leaders expect it to be finished by the first quarter of 2025.

CSNIP says it has secured around $3 million for the $3.6 million project, including a $1 million grant allocated by the Kent County Board of Commissioners through the American Rescue Plan Act and a “transformative” grant from PetSmart Charities. To raise the last $565,704, the nonprofit is seeking support from the community.
