STORY: The demonstrators said the Venezuelan embassy in Argentina was not allowing Venezuelans to register as voters, preventing many from voting.

Protester Fany Suarez teared up as she explained why taking part in elections was important for her.

“The dictatorship must leave. We have family there. We don’t want to keep on living this," she said. "We want Maduro out, that is what we ask for. We want freedom of expression. Those of us who live abroad want to vote in order to help those who are still inside (Venezuela) and so we can return, because we want a free country.”

The protest is one of over 50 worldwide called upon to show support for opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who was banned from running in the election by Maduro’s government.

On Friday (April 5), Venezuelan government sources said the government would allow for six aides of Machado, who are currently at the Argentine embassy in Caracas, to travel safely to Argentina.

The aides, including campaign manager Magalli Meda, previously tipped as a potential replacement for Machado in this year's presidential election, sought protection at the embassy in March after the attorney general's office announced warrants for their arrest.
