VDOT: Part of Penniman Rd. temporarily merged to single-lane travel

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) plans to temporarily merge traffic into a single-lane on Penniman Road (Route 641) in York County.

VDOT said the lane reduction is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, April 15 between Alexander Lee Parkway and Government Road/William Carter Road intersection.

The temporary lane reduction is due to utility work related to the Penniman Road Improvements Project.

Alternating one-way traffic under flagger control will be in effect weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the next several weeks.

Additionally, the existing full closure of Penniman Road to through traffic between Government Road/William Carter Road and Fillmore Road  is expected to remain in place through the summer.

Signed detours will be place to direct motorists traveling west on Penniman Road to turn left onto Government Road, then right onto Oak Drive before turning left onto Penniman Road. The route is reversed if traveling east on Penniman Road near Fillmore Road.

Motorists can expect more single-lane closures as well as full closures along the corridor until the project is completed. VDOT estimates the Penniman Road Improvements Project will be complete in the of summer 2025.
