VBPD: 65-year-old woman shot to death; suspect arrested

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police responded to a call for shots fired on Virginia Beach Boulevard Sunday evening and arrived to discover a 65-year-old woman had died. Police said they are investigating Robin Kaye Tillery’s death as a homicide.

Michelle Linn lives nearby and said police were near the senior apartment complex.

“My husband and I were on our way home,” she said. “It was probably about 10-10:30, and what I feel is every police officer in Virginia Beach was in front of the senior citizens living in the new place. There were police officers all in the parking lot. There were officers just all up and down Virginia Beach Boulevard, and there was yellow tape on the left-hand side of the building.”

Police said the call came in at 9:52 p.m. for a call of shots fired in the 3800 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard just east of the Town Center area of the city.

An investigation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Louis Bernard Lee Jr. in connection with the incident. Lee is currently charged with second degree murder, use of a firearm and use of a firearm by a felon.

Linn said this incident is alarming.

“It’s very frightening,” Linn said. “It’s very frightening to know that this big beautiful building that I felt was going to be a safe building with older people living there. It would be safe, and they haven’t been open for two or three months. There’s already shootings going on in there. That terrifies me.”
