A burning van on the 105 Freeway in the City of Paramount caused heavy delays for commuters early Monday morning.

Sky5 was overhead as flames ripped through the van, which was in the far-right lane of the eastern span of the freeway near Paramount Boulevard, around 6:20 a.m.

Fire crews were hampered by access to the stretch of roadway due to authorities’ access point being “a little tricky,” KTLA 5’s Rich Prickett said.

“It took some time for the fire department to arrive here, and [the fire] is still stubborn,” Prickett said just after 6:30 a.m.

Traffic was backed up on the 105 to the interchange with the 710 Freeway as CHP shut down all lanes of the freeway so the fire could be extinguished. A large plume of smoke was seen billowing over the traffic jam and above nearby residences.
