V-Spot Bar hosts fundraising event for Waldo’s Tavern

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local bar and grill turned Saint Patrick’s Day into a way to help another bar and grill in Lackawanna County.

The community support Sunday proved overwhelming as a popular business in Scranton looks to reopen.

The V-Spot Bar in Scranton held a fundraising event for Waldo’s Tavern.

The tavern has been temporarily closed since catching fire in February.

But after Sunday, it’s hopeful it can reopen sooner than expected.

A lineup of entertainment and raffle baskets along with food and beverages at the V-Spot Bar made for the perfect St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

It also doubled as a way to get Waldo’s Tavern back up and running.

“I’m very emotional. The amount of love and support we have gotten since this happened has been insane,” said Waldo’s Tavern Owner Morgan Vutnoski.

The doors to the tavern closed four weeks ago after an attic fire caused significant damage to the bar and an upstairs apartment.

“We’ve lost a lot. We haven’t been open in a month so this is going to help substantially. It’s been tough you know not working and not having that income come in and Vinny is so gracious to do this,” Vutnoski explained.

“This is their livelihood you know. We are very close. We have close relationships, friendships with everyone so it was concerning. We were worried for them,” said Peckville resident Megan Parri.

A month later and lots of lost revenue, a business less than a mile away decided to help.

“Even though they are in competition with each other. They are still tied in together and it’s just terrific,” said Rich Hurrocks of Dunmore.

“The V-spot, Waldo’s, we are family. We are and as you can see we all stay together,” Vutnoski added.

It’s 30 years of business and 30 years of friendships that a fire could never destroy.

“They’ve been lifelong friends. Dear friends with their father. We’ve spent our whole life together. Helping them out in their time of need means the entire world to me and countless others,” Hurrocks added.

Owner’s of the v-spot were not there when 28/22 News Reporter Gianna Galli was Sunday to talk about the fundraiser they hosted, but Vutnoski tells 28/22 News she hopes to reopen Waldo’s in a couple of weeks because of all the support.
