UWGB and St. Norbert College announce partnership that brings more opportunities to students

BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Two colleges in the Green Bay area are coming together to provide more opportunities for students.

St. Norbert College (SNC) and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) announced a partnership for an accelerated education plan. It includes a ‘3 plus 2 option,’ where students can go to one of the schools for three years, the other for two, and graduate with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Some of the programs it impacts include engineering, economics, and physics amongst others. The cost of classes involved in the program will also be the same across the schools.

President of SNC Laurie Joyner says, “I think this is an innovative and strategic way to partner to try to address some of the areas that maybe we’re both not going to be able to offer but still keep all those opportunities open for students.”

St. Norbert recently added programs, while also laying off several employees to address a budget deficit. However, Joyner does not have any concerns about the current staff at both schools being ready to fairly educate students.

“It really does not just expand opportunities for students, but it also brings the resources of both institutions to bear, so we’re very optimistic we think it’s going to be a win-win for both UWGB and St. Norbert College,” she says.

Bringing together private and public institutions is unprecedented in the area, and by doing so, Chancellor of UWGB Michael Alexander says it will only bring more college students to the city.

He says, “Education is not about building an empire. Education is about building collaboration that allows for a city to thrive, and that’s what this collaboration is about. It’s about taking what each of these institutions incredibly well and where we built in different ways over the years, and combining those things so that Green Bay wins.”

The partnership will be implemented next school year.
