According to a press release from the city of Pensacola, the USDOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Grant Program provided $10 million to Pensacola Energy at a press conference on April 25.

The money will be used “to replace unprotected bare steel mains with polyethylene pipe throughout the City of Pensacola and Escambia County,” the release said.

There will be two projects that come from this: Greenhut Court and Peachtree Park.

“In addition, DoT has defined the two project areas as historically disadvantaged communities. The awarded grant dollars will improve these underserved neighborhoods by reducing safety incidents and fatalities while also attracting new development and employment opportunities,” noted the release.
