US 69 crash involving 18-wheeler leaves one dead in Cherokee County

RUSK, Texas (KETK) — A crash on Monday afternoon led to the death of a Minnesota man on US 69 near Rusk.

According to a release from DPS, the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling south on US 69, reportedly driving “at an unsafe speed for the road conditions.” Road conditions were reported to be wet at the time of the crash.

A 2023 RAM Van was also traveling south on US 69, when officials said the driver of the 18-wheeler lost control, causing the van to veer off the west edge of the roadway striking a tree.

DPS said the driver of the van, Nicholas Schintgen, 44 of Lino Lakes, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace.
